Farmer Protects Animals With Orange Paint

Farmer Protects Animals With Orange Paint

"LOGANTON, Pa. - With deer hunters out all over the woods, a farmer has decided to paint his cows, horses and even his dog bright orange to make sure they aren't mistaken for deer.

Friz Konieczka doesn't want to take any chances because he heard about a neighbor's horse being shot during hunting season several years ago.

Konieczka, a Clinton County farmer, wants his animals to stand out — and they do. Fluorescent orange paint lines their backs and heir sides."

Well, I suppose that's one way to do it!

X marks the spot for giddy gamers

"X marks the spot for giddy gamers
Some wait in line more than 24 hours to get new Xbox 360

NEW YORK - Gaming fans turned out overnight across the country to buy up Microsoft’s Xbox 360 gaming console as it went on sale early Tuesday. GameStop, EB Games and Best Buy opened hundreds of stores across the country for midnight launch events, while eager buyers lined up at 24-hour Wal-Mart stores."

We had a few here at the local Best Buy camping out in front of the store in freezing weather. I don't know, I love video games, and I'd love to have the new XBox 360, but I'm not sure if I'd camp out all day in the cold just to pay $400 for a video game system. To all those hardcore gamers out there who did, I salute your dedication.

Pour the poodle a cold one...

I was surfing around and found this company that makes a beer for dogs. The company, Happy Tail Ale has this to say:

Bottler offers salmon-flavoured soda - Yahoo! News
Mon Nov 14, 7:39 PM ET

"SEATTLE (Reuters) - For beverage connoisseurs tired of turkey-and-gravy or green-beans-and-casserole flavoured sodas, there's a new choice being offered this year by speciality U.S. soda maker Jones Soda Co.: salmon.

Jones Soda, the Seattle company that scored a hit during the last two holiday seasons with its turkey and gravy-flavoured sodas, said it is offering the orange-hued fish-flavoured drink this year in a nod to the Pacific Northwest's salmon catch."

I don't know about anyone else, but I ain't drinking it!!!

Friday Forum

This week's Friday Forum topic, Veteran's Day:

1. Do you get Veteran's Day off? If so, are you doing anything special? Well, as I'm taking off from school this semester, and I'm currently unemployed, yeah, I guess you could say I have Veteran's Day off. Not really doing anything special, just going home for the weekend.

2. Think of all the veterans you know and list them. Tell something you know about them. The only two veterans are my Grandfather and my father-in-law. My Grandfather was career Air Force and my father-in-law was Army Intelligence.

3. Do you know anyone currently serving in the military or military reserves? Tell something you know about them. No, don't really know anyone currently serving in the military.

Just three questions this week...

Make Mine Mild...

So far this is turning out to be the mildest Autumn and Winter I can ever remember. It's the second week in November, and it was actually in the 70's here yesterday! Trust me, I'm not complaining, as a matter of fact, I would love to see it stay warm year round, but it's kind of freaky. Here I've grown up for 23 years used to Kentucky winters; snow, cold, more snow, you get the idea. And now all of a sudden it's warm in the winter. It makes you wonder what global warming is doing to the rest of the world...

I've got the blues...

I've always been a fan of the blues, there's just something about that deep down gritty sound that moves me. That's what made me decide to learn to play the harmonica about 5 years ago. The first two years were great, I had ample opportunity to practice, as I was in a private dorm room on campus 5 days a week, 3 hours away from my friends, my family and my girlfriend. If that's not a ripe environment for the blues, I don't know what is. Then a little over three years ago, it happened, every bluesman's nightmare...I married a girl who doesn't like the harmonica and HATES the blues. So in the interest of compromise and the fact that I like to sleep inside the house, I put the harp up. Well, a few days ago, that all changed. We've finally got everything set up at our new trailer and we go in and stay there on the weekends and during holidays and the like. The trailer is much bigger than our apartment and I can now practice on one side of the house while she's on the other side or gone to visit her parents. So I've dug out my harps, took them home and have them ready to go. I've been listening to the blues a lot lately, trying to get a feel for the sound again and get back into the rhythm of things. Hopefully soon it'll all come back to me.

Friday Forum

This week's Friday Forum theme revolves around "Entertainment."

1. How much TV do you watch a week? Do you watch TV as a family? Do you limit
TV time for yourself and family?
A lot, the tv is almost constantly on at our apartment. However, not so much on the weekends, because we don't have cable in our trailer yet. Yeah, me and my wife watch as a family.

2. Who's your favorite actor and actress? What makes you like them (the movies
or TV shows there in?)
Hmm, Johnny Depp is currently favoire actor, loved Pirates of the Caribbean. He's just a great actor.

3. What's your top 3 favorite TV channels? Discovery, Animal Planet, and a tie between the Travel Channel and USA

4. What are your must-see TV shows? What draws you toward them? Is there a
certain type of TV 'genre' you tend to watch more than others?
WWE RAW, Family Guy, Futurama, Aqua Teen Hunger Force. I tend to be drawn more toward comedies and sitcoms, I love to laugh.

5. What are your 3 favorite movies of all time? How often do you watch them?
Do you own them on DVD/VCR tape? What makes you like these particular movies?
My 3 favorite movies are The Princess Bride, Labyrinth and The Blues Brothers. I watch them as often as I can, which is unfortunately, not enough. I own all three of them on VHS, and I'm upgrading to DVD soon. I don't know what it is that makes me love them, but I can't get enough of them, I could watch just these 3 movies all day long and be ahppy

Happy Dia de los Muertos

Day of the Dead - Día de los Muertos

The Day of the Dead, Día de los Muertos, a festival celebrating the reunion of dead relatives with their families, November 1st and 2nd.

Every year, on November 1st (All Saints Day) and 2nd (All Souls Day), something unique takes place in many areas of Mexico: Day of the Dead festivities. While it's strange for most of us to accept the fact that "death" and "festivities" can go hand-in-hand, for most Mexicans, the two are intricately entwined. This all stems from the ancient indigenous peoples of Mexico (Purepecha, Nahua, Totonac and Otomí) who believed that the souls of the dead return each year to visit with their living relatives - to eat, drink and be merry. Just like they did when they were living.
