A cave so huge helicopters can fly into it has just been discovered deep in the hills of a South American jungle paradise.

Actually, "Cueva del Fantasma"—Spanish for "Cave of the Ghost"—is so vast that two helicopters can comfortably fly into it and land next to a towering waterfall.

As a bonus, researchers also discovered a new dendrobatid frog species, Colostethus breweri, named for the frog’s identifier, Charles Brewer-CarĂas. Dendrobatid frogs make up the group of amphibians commonly known as "poison dart" frogs.

This has been an exciting few months for scientists finding new species, what with the "lost world" in New Guinea and the new animal seen in Borneo. It just goes to show that the Earth isn't as explored as we thought. Photos copyright Charles Brewer-carias / Zootaxa via Magnolia Press

Would you eat here?

On the menu today: horse penis and testicles with a chilli dip
By Richard Spencer in Beijing

"The menu at Beijing's latest venue for its growing army of gourmets is eye-watering rather than mouth-watering.

China's cuisine is renowned for being "in your face" - from the skinned dogs displayed at food markets to the kebabbed scorpions sold on street stalls - and there is no polite way of describing Guo-li-zhuang.

Situated in an elegantly restored house beside Beijing's West Lake, it is China's first speciality penis restaurant.

Here, businessmen and government officials can sample the organs of yaks, donkeys, oxen and even seals. In fact, they have to, since they form part of every dish - except for those containing testicles."

Ok, I love Chinese food, I would eat it almost everyday if I could, but I think I've finally found where to draw the line! I'm not eating anythings penis! So here's the question, would you be willing to eat here?

Bad day?

Having a bad day? Just remember, it could always be worse! At least you're not in this situation!

"Lost World" found in Western New Guinea

Scientists Discover Dozens of New Species in “Lost World” of Western New Guinea
Lost Bird of Paradise Found in Isolated Foja Mountains of Papua, Along With New Honeyeater Bird, New Frogs and a Rare Tree Kangaroo

Washington, D.C. – An expedition to one of Asia’s most isolated jungles – in the mist-shrouded Foja Mountains of western New Guinea – discovered a virtual ``Lost World” of new species, giant flowers, and rare wildlife that was unafraid of humans.

The December 2005 trip by a team of U.S., Indonesian, and Australian scientists led by Conservation International (CI) found dozens of new species including frogs, butterflies, plants, and an orange-faced honeyeater, the first new bird from the island of New Guinea in more than 60 years.

Conservation International and the Indonesian Institute of Science (LIPI) sponsored the expedition, with financial support from the Swift Foundation, the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, the National Geographic Society and the Global Environment Project Institute.

The team captured the first photos ever seen of exotic birds such as a male Berlepsch’s Six-Wired Bird of Paradise (Parotia berlepschi)pictured above. It also found a new large mammal for Indonesia – the Golden-mantled Tree Kangaroo (Dendrolagus pulcherrimus), formerly known from only a single mountain in neighboring Papua New Guinea.

This is cool. Anyone who knows me well knows I love animals and am very big on protecting endangered species and rainforests, so whenever a new species is discovered, or a "lost" species rediscovered, I think it's great. (Picture Copyright Conservation International, Bruce Beehler)

"Oh my God, he's still alive!"

Yeah, I'm still here and kicking. I haven't abandoned the blog or anything, it's just that January was that dull. Aside from the trip to the Bahamas, the whole month just kind of crawled by, being cold and boring. That's why there were no updates, there was just nothing to write about. Looks like Febuary's shaping up to be an interesting month though. Lot of good things happening.

While surfing around, I happened to notice a little blurb about the newest piece of armor being offered to our troops in Iraq, a piece of facial armour from MTek Weapon Systems. I don't know about you, but this thing looks a lot like a storm trooper mask from Star Wars to me, let's compare them side by side:

Now, what do you think, stormtrooper or not? What's next, are we going to start referring to our generals as Grand Moffs? What about some Darth Vader suits for Colonels?
